From the little town Easthampton in Massachusetts comes the very interesting and experimental band Pando. Their music contains various field recordings, experiments, samples and sound manipulations. The band have recently released the album Hiraeth. No You Tube link yet , so you must listen on their bandcamp to get a clue of the music.
Hiraeth is a comprehensive album! It includes a collection of photography, conversations, and artwork gathered by the band throughout the years and digitally rendered into raw audio data in the form of noise. Voicemails and audio recordings of memories and experiences were obtained from friends and family through the use of social media and phone call.
The band members said that they have different backgrounds in the art world. While we do have a few pictures with our backs turned. We don’t necessarily agree with this concept of band image in the music world since it is supposed to be about the music, not what a musician looks like. We aren’t opposed to doing the whole band photo thing, but just don’t really identify with it. We don’t put a lot of information about ourselves out there other than the little bit that comes through in our interviews.
This is because we think it’s important that people take what they can from the music rather than forcing our views into what the tracks mean to us, but we try our best to accurately portray what we feel in our music and provide, what we feel, is enough information in the songs themselves and the artwork we create to accompany the albums. The art is equally, if not more important to us than the music.
As for this particular album, we released a handsome amount of linear notes for this album because this one actually was personal for us and we thought a list of studies we were reading at the time of creating the album was important to include since the album is about experiences and movement of life. It is loosely about taking the negativity that life gives you and.
