What happened in Brisbane in Australia in 2004? Probably very mutch, but the prog metal band Dead Letter Circus rose from the ashes of the band Ochre. Kim Benzie (vocals) and Stewart Hill (bass) wanted to have another go at a band project. They hooked up with Rob Maric (guitars) and Scott Davey (drums). Between 2010 and last year Dead Letter Circus released four albums, and especially Aesthesis from 2015 were well received by the hungry fans and other music lovers.
On September 22nd the fifth self-titled album is released. Above you can listen to the first single The Armour You Own` from the upcoming album. The Armour You Own’ is the first new piece of original music from Dead Letter Circus since 2015’s Aesthesis. It also sees a welcomed return to their amplifiers after 2017’s The Endless Mile – a stripped and acoustic re imagination of songs from the Brisbane five-piece’s career.
The single is lead by crunching guitar riffs, driving rhythms and showcases front man Kim Benzie’s soaring signature vocals over huge hooks. The song was produced by the duo of Forrester Savell (Karnivool) and Matt Bartlem (Jarryd James, Matt Corby) and while it’s sonically impressive – the lyrics underlie an important message. Benzie explains further,
«The Armour You Own spawned from guiding someone important in my life through a bout of anxiety. The constant musing around flipping your moments of fragility into opportunities for growth. TAYO is the perfect vessel for this message – it’s a pulsing confident riff-monster, whilst dripping with positivity».
