Håvard Volden recently released his fourth solo album. The musician continues his journey through experimental soundscapes where he manipulates material from guitars, analog synths, field recordings and the voice of Jenny Hval, a well-known norwegian vocalist he regulary works with.
He’s been working as a musician since 2006, and apart from being the regular guitar player of Hval, he plays in groups like the acoustic trio Muddersten and the kraut and noise rock band Moon Relay. In his solo works he often collaborates with other other musicians, like the Japanese electroacoustic improvisor Toshimaru Nakamura, and the Italian pecussionist Carlo Costa.
The work on Space Happy begun with a Tandberg tape machine from 1971 and an original tape containing music of Tom Jones. It was recorded over a two-year period from 2016 to 2017, adding guitars, synths and sounds. The music once again is free improvisation, and the album was released on the Norwegian label Sofa.
