Picture this scenario, three guys get together to knock back some beers and record some riffs. Once they put the pieces of music together they realize that they have a quirky progressive rock/metal sound. The guitarist of this band decides to record some vocals just for fun and giggles. Since he’s had a couple of beer he thinks it would be hilarious to do a Robert Smith impression. His bandmates crack up, but decide it actually fits the music they’ve been making so they roll with it. This is not a true story, but a funny way to describe how the band Four Stroke Baron could have been a band.
Four Stroke Baron has released the new album Planet Silver Screen, and due to better production and nice unexpected and creative ideas the album is the band`s best work up to now. The band still have a fair amount of weirdness, but there are more structure in the music now. Heavy and modern prog with hints of jazz, electronica, fusion, post punk and new wave. Truly a special musical brew, but it’s a thrilling and adventurous music with pop-like song structures.
Planet Silver Screen offers nice saxophone solos played by Jørgen Munkeby known from fantastic bands like Shining and Jaga Jazzist. The riffs and hooks from the Reno band Four Stroke Baron are mostly extreme catchy, and there are nice widescreen soundscapes. Four Stroke Baron is anything but self-sufficient but have a focus on grooves and twist and turns that make the listener say wow, and I enjoy this! Four Stroke Baron is a band that over 7 billion people don’t know about!
