77 minutes of instrumental prog is what the band King Of Agogik has to offer on their new album After The Last Stroke. King Of Agogik is the moniker for the multi-instrumentalist Hans Jörg Schmitz. On the new album he plays on drums, percussion, guitars, bass and keys. After The Last Stroke is King Of Agogik`s fourth release. Schmitz is of course the main musicians on the new record, but there are twelve very skilled guests musicians who also participate.
Schmidtz is a huge Genesis fan and own over 250 Genesis CDs with all sorts of stuff as studio recordings, recording from the practice room, live recording. As a teacher in drumming at Mayen-Koblenz music school Schmidtz range Phil Collins as one of the greatest drummers of the seventies and eighties. On the record Aleatorik System Schmidtz recorded a tribute to Collins named Call In S.
King Of Agogik started thirteen years ago with the album Membranophonic Experience. The band name has to be understood in a humorous way. It came into life in the nineties when Shmidtz was playing in a cover band called The Assholes. At the time humor and chaos were great elements in Assholes`s music, so madness broke out quite often maybe due to the band’s name? By doing so it once happened that the guitar player in the midst of a solo stopped playing because the roar of the double bass drums killed him. In those days the name King Of Agogik was born.
Schmidtz always look at his music with the wink of an eye and he don`t take himself to serious and enjoy having fun. For that reason King Of Agogik fits perfectly. However, this self-created and self-chosen name is sometimes misunderstood and wrongly interpreted as big-headed and lofty…!!!!!! The music of King Of Agogik is from a man with his head filled with ideas and some of them are really crazy in a positive way. The music therefore turn out to be too much diversity and variety for some listeners. As all interesting and good music the music of King Of Agogik slowly become more and more intriguing and better for each listening. Bon appetite!
