Robert Jan Stips, in between his activities with the Nits, describes the challenge of writing new songs in the style of his legendary first group of Supersister. Under the name Supersister Project 2019 he recorded this material with a number of music friends through life under the watchful eye of The Hour Of The Wolf. The tracks For You And Nobody Else and Hope To See You There Again,
Supersister was founded in 1967 in The Hague, Netherlands as Sweet OK Sister. They were active 1970-1975, 2000-2001 and 2010-2011. Supersister had a sound very much in the Canterbury scene, and if we had to compare them to another band it would with no doubt be Caravan. They blend their own Dutch ideals and a touch humor into a pretty unique mixture of progressive rock. Plenty of flute or sax or both can be heard weaving in and out of the varied organ and piano. They were influenced of Frank Zappa And Mother Of Invention, some Wigwam due to lots of organ and from Soft Machine especially when Soft Machine was a three piece unit.
Present From Nancy (1971) is an impressing and fascinating debut-album featuring greats tracks, lots of flute and disturbed organ and a vocalist who sounds quite a bit like Richard Sinclair. The two first album Present From Nancy and To The Highest Bidder are generally the recommended starting places and work your way forward. Supersister is one of the absolutely best groups from the Dutch progressive rock scene.
