There are 153 metal bands from Puerto Rico, but many of them have ceased to exist. However, it is only 8 prog bands. Bandet Avandra is from the capitol San Juan, and plays a fascinating prog metal. The band is led by composer Christian Ayala and deliver a thought-provoking and well-engineered music. Avandra`s second album Descender is comprehensive progressive album full of delightful twists and turns and changes of pace over the eight tracks. There are plenty of nice riffs, and tasteful lead guitar and a well balanced mix of heavy moments and prog delights. Piano and synth are not so predominant but expand the sonic palette. Avandra started as a one man project, by Christian Ayala and was borned of hurricane fueled strife to become one of the scenes breakout acts. After releasing their first record, Tymora high demand left Ayala feeling obligated to bring his work to the stage.
