The album Divide is the result of a musical collaboration between Tony Patterson and Doug Melbourne. Tony Patterson (ReGenesis, Nick Magnus, John Hackett) – vocals, programming, guitars, flute, additional keys and Doug Melbourne (ReGenesis) – keyboards, programming, backing vocals. The Divide is the debut release album from Tony Patterson and Doug Melbourne. The music is a powerful eclectic mix of rock and electronica, in some ways reminiscent of the music of Seal, Peter Gabriel and Massive Attack, highly melodic and accessible but with enough musical depth and richness. The musicians have worked together in the past – most notably in the UK’s probably best loved Genesis Tribute band ReGenesis. Melbourne has also contributed to some of Patterson’s other projects including However The Divide is their first collaboration as co-writers on a completely original project. The album is a collection of ten songs, which, while reflecting their many influences, stands alone as a highly original yet accessible album.
The lyrics of the songs reflect the world in which we live – fake news, urban stress and conspiracy theorists are among the subjects explored on this polished, epic and powerful album. Multi-instrumentalist Tony Patterson and keyboard player Doug Melbourne first teamed up in 1998 when Patterson joined Genesis tribute band Re-Genesis as the bands singer. The ensuing years found the band achieving cult status.
