The German band Weltstraum released six years ago an album entitled Spirituality, and the music was brutal and hard. Recently the new album Nyx was released, and now Weltstraum deliver a much more relaxed music, but without losing the space-typical pressure and liveliness that the band has long been have and been known for. Revisited live, Nyx is a hypnotic, multi-layered psychedelic improvisation that transports you far and wide into wonderful musical galaxies. The album was grandiosely produced by Matt Korr. The track Zychedelics last for 20.17 minutes! This is of course ultra-spacey with a plethora of effects, very intriguing effects indeed. There are a fair amount of sharp electric guitars and in general the song is filled with nice trippy sounds. Zychedelics is very frightening and dark sometimes and contrasted with luminous parties, hot and cold and with many space-seagulls that are leading the way to some distant places in the deep in the universe.
The band’ has a history as a collective of different musicians. The basic structure of solid band members is always complemented by other musicians. Among other things, overlaps with bands such as Bang, Space Invaders and Lava 303 Result. Nyx is the band’s first album to appear on Tonzonen Records. The track Spiral 3 is close to 19 minutes and starts out with an acoustic brand of space rock combined with some very nice tribal space music
Weltraum founded in 1999 as an IMPRO-project with a mission to provide this world with Spaced-Out improvisational music! First official release came in 2009 with Magnolia on CD. Music, trying to reach the desired vortex that will lead them away from the dangerous mutant cicadas, slowly getting away from the acoustic set and becoming faster and faster, it feels like they’re trying to enter in a state of trance! Under the relaxing sounds of the sea waves, the guitar of The Sea (10:27) unfolds a trippy space-rock pattern followed by the rest instruments, leading your mind into an imaginary utopia of a parallel universe! Drones (11:27) has a deep space-rock rhythm, this track is a continuous sonic attack to your ears, playing tricks with your mind! Superb Impro Space Buzzing tune! My personal favorite in here! (3908) (14:25) starts with various experimental Wooden sounds, slowly improvising under a spacey soundscape, leading to an acute outburst, exploding in front of you and releasing to the air dangerous Space Toxic Bubbles! Eventually, the album closes with Styx (3:55), a weird experimental Outro, spacey and simultaneously earthly too! Well, Weltraum have their own musical aspect about Instrumental Spaced-Out Improvised Rock, an aspect that is being developed and integrated for the last 20 years and it has a really strong following! If you’re not a follower yet, then you’re advised to join their Spaceship! The track Drones,
