Acacia: Introspective Progressive Metal with dark veins…..

Acacia – Resurrection

The Italian band Acacia was founded in 1990 and in many ways they started the Italian prog metal scene back in 90s. They released four demoes and the debut album Deeper Secrets came in 1993, but in 1998 the band disbanded. The years went by and suddenly last year probably one of the best and most important comeback in Italian music history happened! Martino Lo Cascio and his Acacia friends are back and as a bonus they released the sophomore album Ressurection. The track Age Of Glory,

Acacia is led and produced by the guitarist and songwriter Martino Lo Cascio and after so many years of silence they are back with a new line-up: Gandolfo Ferro (vocals), Martino Lo Cascio (guitars), Simone Campione (guitars), Massimo Provenzano (bass), Claudio Florio (drums).

The ten songs of Resurrection is inspired by the incessant inner rebirth of every Man, moves through the paths of a melodic and introspective Progressive Metal with dark veins. The music is supported by the voice of Gandolfo Ferro.  Much music is more or less ruined by a poor vocal presentation, but Mr. Ferro is an outstanding singer. The guitars is also very good through the entire album, and the words very tasteful comes in mind. The guitars fits very well the overall atmosphere on the album and underpinning the above mentioned dark veins. The nice artwork is created by Nello Dell’Omo. The track Alone,

It is clear that the musicians enjoy playing together, and they also play each other even better than the sum of the individual musicians. I expect actually some harder music occasionally, but maybe the next album will have some rougher and harder parts? The production is OK, but maybe next time even a bit better? There are some similarity with Fates Warning.

Acacia was born in Palermo in the early ’90 from the desire of his founder Martino Lo Cascio, guitarist and songwriter of the band. After 4 demo-tapes, No Silence (1991), Looking For To Dream (1992), Funerals Of State (1993) and Introspection (1994), and the participation with the best Italian metal bands at the compilation released by the label Underground Symphony in 1994 (with the song Funerals Of State), the band signed in 1995 a deal with the same label to realize his first album Deeper Secrets.

Released in 1996, Deeper Secrets received very good reviews on the best metal magazines, and the band, considered one of the most interesting of the Italian progressive metal scene and very much appreciated by his fans, played at many live concerts.

But for different point of musical views between his components, Acacia stopped his activity in 1998. In the following years, Martino Lo Cascio has continued to compose and write songs to start again. Permafrost warmly welcomes back Lo Cascio and musical friends.

Slikt krydderet finner man blant annet i musikk.
