Hammok: Decided to finally start making new music again……

Hammok - Resume

In the spring of 2020, Hammok decided to finally start making new music again. After a long search for the perfect vocalist for the band, guitarist Tobias Osland was tired of waiting, and took matters into his own hands. At a time when the world had suddenly turned upside down, Tobias Osland felt he had a reason to shout. Like he had something important to say.

Resume comes first in a series of five singles. The song is a result of its context, a chaotic everyday life with pandemics, racism uprisings and what the band calls a strange internet culture, with tiktok and only fans. A world where one part of the population is starving, while others’ billion-dollar fortunes are only growing.

Resume describes the chaotic feeling of hope and expectations that keeps turning into disappointment. Expectations one has for those elected by the people to make the world a better place but keep doing the opposite. A feeling of craving for something to hold on to, yet being left with nothing but blind hope.

The band defines their sound as alternative and aggressive, and categorize their music as hardcore. In addition, the band draws a lot of inspiration from post punk, indie, post rock and metal, everything they have always adored. Placing your own sound within a certain genre can be difficult and feel limiting for some.

Hammok, on the other hand, feels like this only offers opportunities. It allows them to look at the others within the genre and get inspiration, but also find patterns and rules that they can break and challenge. Why not get the attitude from hip hop or replace the guitar with synths?

Why not use autotune and run a riff backwards, when we have the tools to do so? These are thoughts the band has when they write and produce their songs, a process that for Hammok goes hand in hand.

The most important thing for the band is not how the music sounds, but how it feels. Confrontational, hard, emotional and dramatic. «When you’ve heard a song of ours, you’re supposed to be left with something. A certain feeling. We don’t make background noise» says Tobias Osland.

The band consists of Tobias Osland on guitar and vocals, Ole Benjamin Thomassen on bass and Ferdinand Aasheim on drums. Aasheim and Osland have played together for as long as they have played music. Now, with Ole Benjamin Thomassen in on the team, it’s time for a reintroduction of the band. This is exactly what Resume is, a perfect reintroduction.

Slikt krydderet finner man blant annet i musikk.
