Kjell B. Larsen, guitar/vocals: Member of Ruphus in the 70s. He was one of the main composers for the band and features on all of their albums. Larsen performed with them at Ragnarock in Holmekollen in ’74 and on the main stage at Roskilde Festival in ’78. He lived in Germany from 1976-1980 touring continuously with Ruphus while performing in front of packed audiences.
He released his first solo album titled Larsen during the 80s and continued to tour the continent. He also collaborated with Jon Ebersen (Work Funny Hours) and is still a member of the Soul band Chipahua Soul Survivors.
Furthermore, he formed Pigalle Bluesband during the end of the 90s, which later morphed into Pigalle Kvartetten (Pigalle Quartet). And in 2004 he was project manager on Vi Tar’n Helt Ut by Oslo Rhythm’n Blues Ensemble. He then formed Bargoo in 2009 and released an album of the same name with Sveinung Hovensjø and Bjørn Jenssen. From 2014 and onwards, Kjell Larsen has been playing with The Greens together with Freddy Dahl, Øivind Vilbo and Tore Wildhauer. He also plays guitar in Dylan Bonanza with Arild Rønsen.
It has now been fifty years since Kjell Larsen and Asle Nilsen started Ruphus, and the first song they recorded was the aforementioned Coloured Dreams( from the album New Born Day, 1974). In hindsight, this is the song that most people remember from Ruphus’ heyday and serves as the inspiration for the name of Kjell Larsen’s new ensemble.
