Porcupine Tree: Wow, what an incredible arrangement!

Porcupine Tree – Herd Culling

Porcupie Tree says, «We are proud to finally present an album 12 years in the making – Closure / Continuation, coming 24th June 2022».

I must admit that Porcupine Tree is a band I enjoy and now the band have a new single entitled Herd Culling. And what an awesome song! Karl Kuhnhausen says, «The hi-hat groove and open accents are so tasty. And bass drum syncopation propels. Gavin is such an artist and his drumming always serves the song. Inspiring».

Matthias P says, «Wow, what an incredible arrangement. The drums, the guitars and those keyboards. I love this track. Thank you Porcupine Tree for the new songs. So many things around us right now are so dark and disturbing. It’s such a relief to hear some top notch, professionally mademusic as a counterpoint. I am really looking forward to your new album».

Son go fetch the rifle now

I think there’s something in the yard

I can see the herd is getting rattled

And the dogs are on their guard

Well we came to make a home here

But there’s something in the trees

We bolt the door, chain the gate, secure the homestead

But it’s never gonna leave

In the shackles of the night

There are lights up in the sky

Scratching at the doors

They are coming through the walls

Twenty feet above the ground

They move without a sound

Among the garbage cans

A curse upon the land

The track Harridan,

Gold man bites down on a silver tongue

Takes a deep breath and blows the candle out

He knows the truth but he keeps it to himself

Here it is

You can only save yourself

Only yourself

When we bite the dust

We will hide our cuts from the world

When you’re in the dirt

You don’t show your hurt to the world

Cold man, white knuckles on the wheel

Well it’s all just there to steal

You just gotta take it

Take it like the harridan you are

It’s the time of the almost rain without you

I am in debt to night

And gone to earth for love

And I, a shadow

And what of us?

Steven Wilson explains via Facebook: «New Porcupine Tree single Herd Culling’ out today! It was the final song written for the album. When the rest of the songs were assembled, we felt there was still musically a “hole” for something dramatic in the middle of the album, so it became the only song written as a three way collaboration between Richard Barbieri, Gavin Harrison and I. Beginning with Gavin coming up with an unusual rhythm in 11 (he’ll never give you something easy!), it was then a case of myself and Richard finding the music, and both of us working with sequenced electronics and sound design, alongside the quiet/loud guitar dynamics. The full 7 minute version is a musical storytelling which features several other sections, but I think the edit works quite well as a more conventionally structured piece too – a smaller bite of music».

Porcupine Tree have also announced a series of major European and UK live shows in autumn 2022.

Slikt krydderet finner man blant annet i musikk.
