Beastwood – No Way Home

When some are in town and get too much alcohol then there are some who have no way home because they are drunk. Luckily this is a rater rare condition but the band Beatswood new album is entitled No Way Home. The track Heavy American Dirt from the EP No Way Home. The band present their music with this quote, «Music that should be played during every Patrick Swayze bar fight ever».

Beastwood comes in strong on Heavy American Dirt with sludgy driving guitars, complimented by groove laden drum parts throughout. Fueled by gritty, powerful vocals Beastwood deliver a track that rolls heavily through the territory occupied by Down, Clutch and Corrosion Of Conformity and they produce a sound that roams between stoner metal and southern rock with just enough to sludge to top off the heaviness.

 No Way Home is a musical comeback that showcases the versatile song writing talents of Beastwood across three tracks. It also displays the world of heaviness the collective uniquely creates using driving guitar tones and stylistic themes/ideas that are different for each track. No Way Home is disgustingly heavy and abrasive in nature but remains communicative and easy to digest to the listener. Be prepared for a wild and satisfying journey.

 Touted as chameleon’ it’s fairly difficult to place Beeastwoodinto one genre for an accurate description. They seamlessly fuse the upbeat catchiness of Clutch, the heaviness of Crowbar, the groove of Down and many, many more to make their own personalized styling of old school NOLA sludge meets new era stoner metal meets straight up Pantera-esque groove metal.

 Forming in late 2010, Beastwood hit the ground running. Six quick months after the band’s inception (including the release of two demos and an EP), they headed west to Salt Lake City, Utah to record their full-length debut record Sex Devil. 12 tracks of seriously raw and dirty rock that received heavy praise from their peers in similar genres.

 The following years from 2011-2013 saw the band continuing to build their fan base in and out of state by touring, hosting their own music festivals, being the go-to for co-headlining acts with bands such as Puddle Of Mudd, Dope, Soil, and Texas Hippie Coalition, and writing very frequently all at the same time which would lead to the release of their very anticipated, much more polished, and exceedingly heavier sophomore release Alabama Space Witch. 

 Following the release of Alabama Space Witch with the heavy promotion of the record’s single Galactic Bison, the band continued with their noses to the grindstone with more shows, more touring, and more hard work. 

After almost 5 straight years of heavy rotation in their local region of the United States, the band took a hiatus to focus on other projects and family life. With never any intention of stopping, the band quietly still worked on their craft while promising to release their best material yet. 

With funny promotional videos for every show the band is known for and many shows planned for the future, the next few years should be very busy for Beastwood. Their upcoming EP No Way Home promises to bring foundation shaking heaviness to Iron Head Records.

Ikke overraskende mener jeg at progressiv musikk har den fineste "smaken". På den annen side kan musikk med eller uten progressive elementer være godt nok til hverdags. Til fest derimot holder bare rendyrket prog! Må jo også få med at jeg rimelig kritisk, og jeg mener at det lages mye prog som er i beste fall uinteressant, og faktisk mye som er pinlig dårlig. Heldigvis oppveies dette av ekstremt dyktige aktører som for eksempel: Flower Kings, Mostly Autumn og White Willow, for å nevne noen tilfeldig valgte.
