Welsh multi-instrumentalist and producer Catherine Anne Davies works under the moniker The Anchoress. Her debut album, Confessions of A Romance Novelist was released on Kscope to widespread critical acclaim and was named amongst the Guardian critics’ Albums of the Year, won HMV’s Welsh Album of the Year, Best Newcomer at the PROG awards, and a nomination for Welsh Music Prize. The Anchoress have released a fascinating version of Nirvana`s song Pennyroyal as a reaction to the overturning of Roe v Wade in the USA!
Says, «In the wake of the overturning of Roe v Wade there was only one song that I was ever going to tackle this month, Pennyroyal Tea by Nirvana – named after the herb pennyroyal that was used historically to induce abortions».

Catherine Anne Davies, aka The Anchoress, has released her own version of Nirvana’s Pennyroyal Tea. The song originally appeared on the Seattle band’s 1993 album In Utero and, according to late front man Kurt Cobain, was written about someone who was beyond depressed.
The Anchoress is one of many artists who’ve spoken out against the overturning of Roe v Wade. She wrote about her own experiences of stillbirth and miscarriage on her second album, The Art Of Losing, which was voted Prog magazine writers Album Of The Year in 2021.
