Linköping is the center of an old cultural region and celebrated their 700th anniversary in 1987. Seven years before that event the Linköping band Zut Un Feu Rouge was formed. They were and are making a unique kind of music, combining parts of songs arranged tightly and improvisation, containing weird sound experimentation. They also add to their music some pieces taken from the literary world, the T.V. and also the cinema.
Zut Un Feu Rouge released two album in the eighties, Kafka Vs. Chaplin 1983 and Who`s Afreud from 1985. The five members used their varying musical abilities and mutual broad cultural interests to experiment. Zut Un Feu Rouge challenged their own as well as other people’s perception of what music could, or should, be. In 2010 the band returned to live performances and began song writing for a new LP album, Childwoods. No You Tube link yet so Bandcamp is the place to listen to Childwoods.
That album was written and recorded between 2013 and 2019, this record is the band’s fourth, but the first in 34 years with new songs. On the vinyl release the members trace their youth and the mythology of the past. Optimism is mixed with fear, cold war and neighborhood adventures. While the lyrics are historically and geographically diverse, the music is a pick up sticks game with rock, pop, jazz, folk and art music.
Zut Un Feu Rouge like to blend organized and unorganized sounds and to modify people’s perception of what music could be. They experimented that in En Morgon I Enn Sovande Mans Vakna Dröm, one of their compositions, and in their first organic soundscape where they made three organs become a part of the ecosystem during three hours.
Another interesting fact is that the very skilled and experienced Lach`n Jonsson, who also played in Förträngt Hushållsarbete, UR Kaos and Songs Between and released solo albums as well, is a member of that band.Their name is French for Darn It, A Red light. An example of an old song Sken Av Älg,
