Rest Of The World is the second Manna/Mirage album, and with members of The Muffins, Moon Men, and Diratz. Maestro of Manna/Mirage Is Dave Newhouse (The Muffins, Diratz) and he plays keyboards, saxophones, percussion, woodwings, doumbek, bass drum and accordion. Newhouse have assistance of 12 musicians on the new album. The record was released some weeks ago, and the music is an amalgam of avant prog, Canterbury prog and fusion.
Manna/Mirage is named after 1978 debut album from the band Muffins. That release is one of the essential Canterbury related releases ever. Manna/Mirage is a band project that Newhouse was thinking about for quite some time. He hope that the music of Manna/mirage harken back to more of the original AmeriCanterbury sound that The Muffins produced with their first few albums.
One of the more exciting characteristics of this project is the opportunity to work with many talented friends of Newhouses`s that he have known ofor many years, and in some instances, just met. In this way, Manna/Mirage will serve as a kind of ever-shifting digital meeting place.
Manna/Mirage debut was released in the autumn of 2015, bears the title of Blue Dogs, a title inspired by a painting by artist and RIO/Canterbury fan Gonzalo Fuentes Riquelme (aka Guerrilla Graphics), which graces the CD cover. The album was mixed and produced by Mike Potter of Baltimore’s Orion Studios, probably the one of most important venue for progressive music in the US.
