Nad Sylvan: Freedom to develop the songs in their own ways
Nad Sylvan – The Regal Bastard

Hugh Erik Stewart (aka Christopher Stewart, Nad Sylvan) was born June 4th 1959 in West Covina, California, USA. The album Regal Bastard is the sixth solo offering from Nad Sylvan. Sensibly enough, he has a lot of skilled and famous musicians on that record. The album will be released during the upcoming summer. Nad Sylvan has been Stewart`s artist moniker since 1997.
Sylvan says: «This album is very coherent. It really does excite me, and I am sure my fans are going to freak out when they hear it»! The record will feature a raft of guest musicians, including Steve Hackett, Guthrie Govan, Tony Levin, Jonas Reingold, Nick Beggs, Nick D’Virgilio, along with singers Sheona Urquhart, Jade Ell and Tania Doko. On Regal Bastard Nad Sylvan (Steve Hackett, Agents Of Mercy, Unifaun) contribute with lead vocals, electric & acoustic guitars, keyboards and piano. The track I Am The Sea,
Sylvan explains: «What I tend to do is put down my ideas, and then send these to the proper musicians, who are then free to develop them in their own ways. I can then cherry pick from what they subsequently send me. I have had to take a number of breaks, though, from working on this album, due to other commitments. So, it’s never been a case of me devoting all of my time to the project. But what this has done is allow me to return to it refreshed after time away, and able to take a different perspective on it all».
Sylvan adds: «The music to the title track was finished in early 2018, but the lyrics and the vocal delivery was all done in two days and finished on the same day I went to master the album. But it worked»!
Sylvan was initially a part of a succession of bands from the late 1970’s and onward, and was close to achieving real mainstream success with the band One By One in the second half of the 1980’s. Following this involvement he abandoned his band activities for many years, but resurfaced with the project Unifaun in 2008, and then went on to accidentally form The Agents Of Mercy with The Flower Kings main man Roine Stolt shortly after. From 2012 he has also worked with Steve Hackett and his Genesis Revisited projects.
As a solo artist, Nad Sylvan’s first production was initially released in 1995, then called The Home Recordings and released under the name Chris Stewart. In 1997 he recorded the concept album The Life Of A Housewife, which was eventually released through the then popular website mp3.com in 1999, alongside a renamed version of his 1995 solo debut now renamed to Blue Waters and issued as a Nad Sylvan album. His next album Sylvanite took the same path, initially recorded in 2001 and then released through mp3.com in 2003.
