R.I.P. Dr. John

Malcolm John Rebennack moniker was Dr. John and he died yesterday of a heart attack. Dr. John has served rock, blues and New Orleans R&B since the late 1960s and is considered an institution. He was a white man who found a home in the mainly black music scene in New Orleans at a time when the music scene in the US was more segregated.
The artist became acquainted with theatrical shows, psychedelic voodoo ceremonies and colorful costumes. His most famous song, the Right Place Wrong Time, reached the charts in 1973.
Six-time Grammy winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Dr. John is a New Orleans icon and international music legend, touring with his band The Gris Gris Krewe. Dr. Johnis universally celebrated as the living embodiment of the rich musical heritage exclusive to New Orleans.
