Drifting Sun: Junkie Planets!

Drifting Sun – Planet Junkie

The album title A Planet Junkie doesn’t sound good, and some would probably argue that the Earth is just A Planet Junkie. In addition, A Planet Junkie is the latest album to the band Drifting Sun. And this album sounds actually very good. The band is a UK-based progressive studio project. Their music has been described as dramatic, theatrical, & atmospheric, in the true style of prog giants such as Dream Theater, Queensryche, Genesis and Jethro Tull, to name but a few of the bands that influenced their sound. The band dates back to the early 90’s when keyboardist and composer Pat Sanders left his native France for England with bass player Manu Michael. The originally was named Drama. A Planet Junkie is the sixth album from Drifting Sun. The track To Tame A Star,

The new album featuring a guest trio of fine vocalists. Marc Atkinson from Riversea/Moon Halo, Colin Mold previously from Karnataka, and Joshua Corum from Head With Wings, the new album also features nice guest performances from Ben Bell (Gandalf’s Fist/Patchwork Cacophony/Broken Parachute, and many others!), Eric Bouillette (The Room/Nine Skies, and also many, many others!), Conrad Cheng and Sarah Skinner (Red Dirt Skinners). The track Within Your Bones,

Pat Sanders has collaborated on a large number of studio and live projects with many talented musicians throughout his career as a performer and song writer. He was part of numerous rock acts back in France, and one of his most notable contributions is on prog band Emeraude’s second record Voyageur. In the mid 90’s, Sanders was also one of the founding members of a Jethro Tull tribute band named The Passion Players, a band which he followed on tour in Canada for a year. During his Canadian stint, Sanders took time to play keyboards on the debut album of Esoteric Prog outfit Salem. With Drifting Sun, Sanders has had the opportunity to work with John Lingwood (Manfred Mann’s Earth Band) and John Keeble (Spandau Ballet). He lives in leafy South Buckinghamshire and drives a death trap.

Mathieu Spaeter started playing the guitar when he was 11 years old, and joined his first professional band at only 18 years of age. A versatile player, he has been working as a session and touring musician with many bands and artists over the years. In 2006 he teamed up with drummer and long-time friend Jimmy Pallagrosi to form KSIZ, an instrumental progressive rock project. Their debut album Sandcrawler was released in 2007, and was followed by a second record entitled Nerve Of War in 2012. Both albums are currently distributed by French progressive label Musea. Mathieu has collaborated with a number of renowned musicians, such as Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater/Planet X), Tom Kennedy (Mike Stern/Al DiMeola), Christophe Godin (The Mˆrglbl Trio/GnÙ) and Anton Kalugin (Sunchild/Hoggwash/Karfagen). He once had to re-tune his guitar to record a DS song, and still blames Pat for it.

Bass player Manu Michael hails from the French Riviera. In the early 90’s he moved to the UK, and enjoyed a long stint in the country, during which time he joined Yorkshire-based hard rock outfit Mother Mary. Together, they toured extensively throughout the UK and abroad, and released an album entitled Truth. Manu has since settled back in the South of France and now divides his time between working as a session bass player and getting his own solo project off the ground. His influences range from Billy Sheehan to Gene Simmons to Steve Harris. He is a perfectionist and prides himself on having recorded all his bass lines in one take (except for the ones that took several attempts).

The drummer Will Jones began collaborating with artists from around the world in 2001. After graduating from Music College in 2003 he spent a year with a band in Germany, then formed pop/punk outfit This Is My Honesty in 2006, cutting his teeth as a live performer. Jones moved on to join London-based BBC Switch indie favorites Kids Love Lies in 2010, before entering the session world the following year. Jones once got lost on the way to the stage at Sheffield City Hall!

Slikt krydderet finner man blant annet i musikk.
