Heyoka’s Mirror is a fascinating band from Calgary and they offers very good progressive rock/metal music and the band has international roots.
The heyoka (heyókȟa, also spelled haokah, heyokha) is a kind of sacred clown in the culture of the Lakota people of the Great Plains of North America. The band Heyoka`s Mirror states about this phenomena, «The spirit of a Heyoka is the Great Mirror. When you connect to a Heyoka, what you see in them will show you what you need to work on to evolve spiritually».
The band was brought to life in the summer of 2015 by founding members Andrew Balboa and Omar Sultan, later that year joined by drummer Bayan Sharafi who found his home in Heyoka’s Mirror. Heyoka’s Mirror will be releasing their debut full-length album in the first quarter of 2021, and the album is entitled The Uninvited King.
No one is better at describing the lyrics than the band themselves, so we let them do!
«Our album talks about a man who we like to call Mr. Loomis. Mr. Loomis has had a very rough life from the moment he was a little boy. His dad abused him not only mentally but also physically. Each song represents an era, an event, and a character that Loomis met in his life. At the beginning he thought his abusive father was to blame for everything bad that happened in his life. He never asked to be born or to have him as a father. So he saw it as the king of his household…a king who was uninvited. Later in the album he realizes that his dad wasn’t the Uninvited King…but all the feelings/trauma/ideas that were created because of his childhood. All those feelings were uninvited».
