Beyond The Illusion is the new album by the keyboardist Stefano Panunzi. A Roman musician who has been working on his own for more than a decade, Panunzi imbues his albums with strong instrumental echoes that refer directly to the work of Jansen, Barbieri & Karn, Porcupine Tree, No-Man, and King Crimson’s ProjeKCts series. Beyond The Illusion is a moody collage of progressive influences: an album which has its roots in art rock and ambient jazz, cinematic soundscape and alternative rock. Stefano Panunzi is a Roman musician. Among the tracks are The Bench, dedicated to the late pen pal Mick Karn of Japan (he played on Panunzi’s first two solo albums); I Go Deeper, written with Tim Bowness and included in another version on the latter’s solo album, Flowers At The Scene (2019); and all those sung by the voice of GRICE (born Martin Grice Charles Peters).
