Lugosi: with a penchant for the macabre and a love of horror and scifi….

Lugosi - Video Nasty

The band states, «We are Lugosi, a Dublin based alternative rock 4 piece with a penchant for the macabre and a love of horror and scifi. Let us into your ear».

Lugosi was formed in 2016, and influenced by the unholy quadrilogy of beer, books, movies and music, they embarked on a mission to make heavy music informed by horror and science fiction, infused with singular humour and delivered with groove and style. Best described as a sonic Ed Wood movie transmitted through rock and roll, Lugosi has created a cartoon catalogue of monsters and myths, aliens, witches, vampires, secret societies and much, much more.

«They Came From Outer Space is the second single from our album Video Nasty which will be released March 12th 2021. The theme of the video is a video conference call to discuss some alien activity between the interested parties, a scientist, a senator, an army general and a couple of field agents. It’s all just swamp gas at the start refers to the stock explanation always given by the government while commenting on UFO sightings».

Following last month’s They Came From Outer Space single, Irish punk rockers Lugosi announce a March 12th release for Video Nasty, their second studio album.

To celebrate the news of Video Nasty the four-piece released a third single from the album.

Featuring eight tracks that are bursting with the bands’ unique tongue-in-cheek humor, twinned with their ability to produce groove-drenched bangers, Video Nasty brings a cross-over sound that has elements of Melvins, Clutch and Misfits sprinkled throughout.

Continuing their strange obsession with the number 8, and recorded in short spurts between various lockdowns, their second album Video Nasty is an 8-track trip to the corner video store. Covering strange and diverse unhallowed ground lyrically, this album delivers even more drive and punch than the first.

The band recently announced a US distribution deal with Ruined Vibes Records, home to Nick Oliveri [ex Queens of the Stone Age, Mondo Generator].

Label boss, Jason Hall, commented on the bands forthcoming release:

«Hailing from Dublin, horror rockers, Lugosi’s sophomore album ‘Video Nasty’ will be proudly distributed in the USA by Ruined Vibes, which is a boutique vinyl label based in the heart of “desert rock” in the California desert, specifically Sky Valley».

Stylistically, the band have been influenced by Danzig, Misfits, Clutch and Black Sabbath, with a smattering of Django Rheinhardt, thrown in for good measure.

After a couple of years of honing their live performances and exploring the dusty back shelves of the local public library, the band recorded and launched their debut album Rise From The Grave in 2019. This album consisted of 8 tracks, four of which were released as singles, supported by videos and shows across the island of Ireland.

2020 arrived and brought Lugosi’s interior horror movie reality to the general public in the form of a global pandemic. The track We`re Here To Drink Blood,

Lyrics:

Never gonna stop us, never put us down,

The time has come to drain this town.

Carpathian bloodline, the killer supreme,

my only joy is the sound of your screams.

Won’t decompose, won’t shy from the light,

got my RayBans on, it’s eternal night.

We’re Here To Drink Blood

We’re Here To Drink Blood

Dressed in black I stalk the stage.

Can’t take me out with a fuckin’ twelve gauge.

You’re here to feed me, maintain my youth.

Living nightmare, I’m eternal proof.

Won’t turn to dust, won’t decompose,

I’m a chupacabra with cooler clothes.

We’re Here to Drink Blood

We’re Here to Drink Blood

I’m not psychodynamic theory,

not a Coney Island attraction,

I’m tearing out your throat tonight,

it’s my benefaction.

Never gonna stop us, never put us down.

The time has come to drain this town.

Carpathian bloodline, the killer supreme,

my only joy is the sound of your screams.

«This is the third single from our new album Video Nasty which will be available on all good platforms from March 12th. The song Soylent Green was written by our singer the Reverend JM Burr and is inspired by the movie of the same name. The video was made by our guitarist Alan Morton and is a pure lockdown video. Alan had to create something fun and engaging without a cast a crew. So the video was written, directed, produced, filmed, edited and stared Alan Morton».

Slikt krydderet finner man blant annet i musikk.
