Dan Baune’s Lost Sanctuary: With a song about anxiety, despair and shame…..

Dan Baune’s Lost Sanctuary - Open Your Eyes (Video & Single)

Lost Sanctuary is the long-awaited debut solo endeavor of Monument guitarist Dan Baune. Together with trusted friend and power-house drummer Sebastian Weiss, Dan Baune greatly expands upon his NWoBHM roots and has written an album that is both extremely heavy and intensely melodic, showcasing his love for thrash, speed and power metal alike.

Dan Baunecovers guitar and bass duties on the entire album, as well as lead vocals on many songs. The concoction is completed by a number of acclaimed guest vocalists, such as Doogie White (Rainbow, Yngwie Malmsteen, Michael Schenker), Herbie Langhans (Firewind, Avantasia), Rasmus Andersen (Diamond Head), Matt Mitchell (Furyon), Jennifer Diehl (Fire Red Empress) and Aliki Katriou (Eight Lives Down), as well as two guest soloists, Bob Katsionis (Firewind, Outloud) on keys and Chris Webb (Solsikk, Biomechanical) on guitar.

Lost Sanctuary takes you on an emotive journey, with wistful songs, epic sing-along anthems, and straight up in-your-face thrash metal mayhem. The thunderous production lets the band sound raw and dangerous, perfectly treading the line between modern and old-school. The energy and sheer hunger committed to tape here is palpable, and the entire album doesn’t let up from start to finish, with many moments of virtuosity interspersed throughout.

For fans of Nevermore, Machine Head and Iced Earth.

Dan says about Open Your Eyes:

«Musically, Open Your Eyes is a NWoBHM song on steroids, with a pinch of Scandi power-metal thrown in, as it features an amazing keyboard solo by my good friend Bob Katsionis».

«Thematically, it’s a song about anxiety, despair, shame and all that goes with battling feelings of inadequacy. It depicts how, although in our “inner world” chaos may reign, outwardly we often bear our stiff upper lip and don’t let anyone see the darkness within. It’s an invitation for everyone to not only see and greet other people’s struggles with compassion, but their own even more so! However, it’s not all doom and gloom. As in-your-face and aggressive as the song begins, it also has many melodic and hopeful moments that bring light into the darkness. As with many songs on Lost Sanctuary, Open Your Eyes thrives through this counter-play of vicious thrash-metal mayhem and a catchy sing-along chorus».

Lyrics:

I’m lying wide awake again

Fixating on my mistake again

I’m so tired of these tears

Of all the worries and the fears

Eventually when sleep takes hold

And the subconscious can unfold

A strange yet familiar choir

Echoes forth from the void

CHORUS

OPEN YOUR EYES

SEE MY DEMISE

Feel the thrill of the chase

As I run from your grace, and I sing

OPEN YOUR EYES

Expectations are high again

My chest tight and mouth dry again

The pressure mounts, the valves are flawed

It can no longer be ignored

Don’t meditate as much as I could

Or ease my mind as much as I should

Guess I just can’t escape the fate

So I race into the void

CHORUS

Best laid plans of mice and men

Left to the whim of the dice again

A vision once so strong and clear

Is now obscured by grief and fear

So damned tired of this game

And false comfort found in shame

The endless chatter in my head

As I plunge into the void

CHORUS

Slikt krydderet finner man blant annet i musikk.
