Malossi: With shiny mustache…..

Malossi – Blanke Barter

Malossi is hardrock with Solør dialect with stories about growing up in the village, strong coffee and dark fates.

Malossi is rooting from the Norwegian countryside, and draw their inspiration from the hardships of redneck youth in the eighties and nineties, where moped tuning and other adolescent values was the order of the day. The band delivers heavy rock doused with elements of stoner and seventies rock, focusing on strong and melodic vocals and a solid groove – solid, deep and dirty. The track Drømmer På Boks,

Blanke Barter (Shiny Mustache) is the second album from the hard-hitting band from Oslo known as Malossi, with roots all the way into the darkest forests between Glomma and the Swedish border. On the album’s ten songs Malossi is more solid than ever, a vibrating and vivid band showing they play both with their heads and hearts.

Well-grounded in the timeless foundation of drums, bass, and guitar, lifted up by small melodious tales in their rugged native dialect from Solør, the listener is transported to distinctive places with recognizable characters and destinies. Mopeds held together by duct tape.

Teenagers listening to Black Sabbath, Kyuss and Clutch mixtapes in their Walkmans™, raging down the dirt road to the corner of the gas station, where they share a flask and tall tales.

Accordion music and old Swedish songs about suicide and long-haul trucking can be heard from the gas station radio. Along the path into the forest staggers an old man with a bag from the local liquor store.

The larger part of the album was ready before the corona pandemic happened, but the lock-down provided time to polish both music and musicians before release and upcoming gigs.

Renowned guest artists have been brought in for double bass, harmonica, organ, tuba an ratchet. The album is mixed by Daniel Bergstrand (In Flames, Dimmu Borgir, El Caco) & Fredrik Thordendal (Meshuggah), and mastered by Lawrence Mackrory (Onslaught, Baest, Pure Reason Revolution).

This is neither odd nor crooked, thoughtless or trendy. This is heavy rock in Norwegian, with a small slice of American desert and a big chunk of Norwegian rural culture. Malossi is looking forward to sharing their stories with the people out there.

About Ulf Backstrøm (7437 Articles)
Slikt krydderet finner man blant annet i musikk.
