Smalltape - The Hungry Heart
Dissolution is a song by the band Smalltape and this is no small song as it last for 21 minutes and fifteen seconds. According to the length it possible it a prog song and that is correct. The German musician Philipp Nespital is the mastermind behind Smalltapes but he is supported by twelve skilled musicians on the new and third album The Hungry Heart. Nespital sings her plays, guitars, piano, keyboards, percussion and use of the electronics on the album.
Nespital was previously a member of the short-lived Treehouse Scenery, her performs as a drummer, pianist and singer in diverse musical projects and started the project Mt. Amber. Nespital has also appeared in different movie post-productions as a sound designer, music composer and sound mixer.
Nespital is hard working man and he is active in his studio in collaboration with some guest musicians such as Otis Sandsjö (tenor saxophone, ex-Lucia Cadotsch Trio), Christopher Zitterbart (guitars, ex-Mt. Amber) or Stephan Pankow (guitars, ex-Toxic Smile), and on stage with Manuel Humpf (drums), Alexandra Praet (bass, keyboards, backing voices), and Flavio De Giusti (guitars, backing voices). His first album Circles has been released in 2011, and his second one The Ocean in 2017.
Now four years later Nespital is back with his third album as mentioned above. He furtherrefines his atmospheric sound on the new album. The music is complex but accessible a well-worth listening to. On the album artrock meets jazz and Nespital explores new and exciting musical landscapes. The lyrics deals with racism, climate change, gender roles and mental health.
