Christmas came early this year because Dream Theater is releasing a new record!
Soon a big event will take place! Dream Theater with a new album is at least for me something I always look forward to. The new album A View From Top Of The World is filled with extremely good songs according to the jungle telegraph, and with a lot of other snacks! The new album will be released October 22, so the Dream Theater fans has to be patient a few more months.
The new Dream Theater album is done according to guitarist John Petrucci the new album has been recorded and will be out later this year. Petrucci said the new album is filled with energy and excitement and positivity, which is also pretty in line with what drummer Mike Mangini said about the album being intense overall.
«We just wrapped recording of that. We had been working on that since October. And I am super excited about it. It’s not gonna come out till later this year. We don’t have any release-date information yet, obviously, as we do, we’ll let everybody know. But I am just really, really excited». While we wait for the new album we could listen to the Christmas track The Holiday Spiritual Carries On,
«The pandemic has been hard on a lot of people in the world, and as far as the way it’s affected musicians, everybody wants to play — everybody’s pent up; there’s no live performances», he continued. «So I feel like, with all these records that we’re doing in the studio, the Dream Theater guys came to play. So the record [is] filled with energy and excitement and positivity. I’m excited about it. I can’t wait for people to hear that».
The new Dream Theater album will be the band’s first to feature eight string guitar, too.
Dream Theater – comprised of James LaBrie, John Petrucci, Jordan Rudess, John Myung and Mike Mangini – was in the middle of a sold-out world tour in support of their last release Distance Over Time and the 20th anniversary of Scenes From A Memory when a Global Pandemic brought the world to a stop. The musicians found themselves at home with LaBrie in Canada and the rest of the group in the States.
As fate would have it, they’d just finished construction on DTHQ (Dream Theater Headquarters) —a combination live recording studio, rehearsal space, control room, equipment storage, and creative hive. With LaBrie in Canada, he initially wrote with the band via ZOOM on a monitor in DTHQ. In March 2021, he flew down to New York, quarantined, and recorded his vocals face-to-face with Petrucci. The album ultimately threaded together lean and uncompromising hooks with tried-and-true technical proficiency.
«We just love to play our instruments», observes Petrucci. «That never goes away. I love to be creative, write, and exercise that part of my mind. We’ve been able to do this for a long time, and we don’t take it for granted. Whenever we get together, we know we can’t disappoint ourselves or our fans, so we manage to try even harder».
«We approach every album like it’s our first», adds LaBrie. «It’s been such a great ride, but we’re not going to stop».
