Unaka Prong: Honing in their songwriting with each stylistic direction……

Durham, North Carolina is the eighty-fourth largest city in the United States. The city had a population of 229,330 in 2010, making it the fifth largest city in the state. Among those it is five musicians in the band Unaka Prong. The band states, «We pronounce the name, Ooh-nah-kuh Prong».

Unaka Prong displays a wide range of music styles from Jazz, blues, funk, rock and pop and keep some space for improvised jams which play a major role in their live shows. It’s keyboard player Chris Pope who is mixing those styles of music in something harmonious. . The band released their debut album Margot in 2016. The band influences can go from Phish and Steely Dan.

Some weeks ago the band released their fourth album Kudzu filled with enigmatic music and hard-to-pigeonole music. Very fascinating indeed, and as a bonus the band obviously don`t take themselves too serious. Unaka Prog offers intricate song structures and tight and well-crafted music.

Over the past seven years, Unaka Prong has been sculpting a sonically unique identity. They borrow their name from the Unaka mountain range on the NC/TN border. Unaka Prong offers a fresh and memorable musical experience that many fans have described as a melding between prog rock groups like King Crimson, jazz funk groups like Soulive, and psychedelic jam rock groups like Phish.

Combining odd meters, funky grooves, and earnest lyricism, their release, Salinity Now!, reflects the group honing in their songwriting with each stylistic direction. Recently the band has been busy touring the east coast performing at music festivals and clubs alike supporting notable acts including Tauk, Mungion, Moon Taxi, Toubab Krewe, Vintage Pistol, Jonathon Scales Fourchestra, and Dumpstaphunk.
