Protomythos: More acoustic-based, though not at all folky – just a different aesthetic.

Protomythos: is the musical project of Israeli-born, London-based musician Tom Treivish. The album Heavy Crowns, released in 2019, was mixed by Grammy-winning mix engineer Michael Brauer (Coldplay, Bon Jovi, Dream Theater) and mastered by Maor Appelbaum (Faith No More, Yes, Sepultura). The debut album, In Human Sight, came out in 2013 and is a prog rock vegan concept album. Yes, you read it correctly.

Now the band are back with Chris Allen on drums and percussion and of course Tom Trevish with vocals and all another instrumentations. Narratives and this is the third record from the band. Tom Trevish has been a vegetarian since the age of 16 and became a vegan in 2011. In his opinion there’s no subject more pressing or important as animal rights. He wanted to send a message through the music and the lyrics and in that way make his contribution to this worthy cause. But sending a message would not be enough, because words and ideas have to be followed by action, so he decided to donate 20% of the album’s profits to animal rights organizations.

Treivish states, «The new album Narratives is finally out! Work on this was done over a long period of time (also due to procrastination as well as a global pandemic, you know how annoying those can be)».

Narratives combines material that was written around the time that Heavy Crowns was written and recorded, with some material dating back even way further back than that. A majority of the songs were written and recorded between late 2018 and late 2020.

This album is different from its predecessor as its predecessor is different from the album before it. Diversity and trying different directions has always been a goal of mine and each album aims for that, as will be the case with the next album (spoiler).

While In Human Sigh was a progressive/classic rock album (kind of) and Heavy Crowns is a bit more metal, Narratives was something I intended to be much more acoustic-based, though not at all folky – justa different aesthetic.

I think it came out very well and I hope you will like what you hear. The fact that there are quite a lot of people who enjoy my music is mind-boggling but I’m glad that you do.
