Latvia is a republic in Northern Europe, on the Baltic Sea. The country borders Estonia to the north, Lithuania to the south, Russia and Belarus to the east and the Baltic Sea to the west. Today we travel to Latvia and to the band Grupa Harijs and they have released the album Alku Dunu Troksnis, and the name Troknis is translated Noise!
Grupa Harijs is an artrock and progrock band consisting of 8 members from Latvia, a small, idyllic and relatively warm country.
Their influences range from 70s hard rock, like Led Zeppelin and Blue Oyster Cult, to jazz legends like Miles Davis and Bill Evans, and even more modern guitar heroes such as King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.
The band states, «We’ve just released our sophomore album Alku Dunu Troksnis. What can you expect? Well, in comparison to our first album, we got a drummer, so that’s cool, and we also added a saxophone player. This has allowed us to experiment with progrock time changes, brass solos, as well as opened our hands to a more guitar and synth heavy riff writing. But all-throughout we’ve tried to remain fun, in both music and in person».
