Tears Of Fire – Relics Of Ancient Love

Tears Of fire is an oriental funeral doom band called Tears of Fire . This week they released their new album Relics Of Ancient Love on Grazil Records .

The music played by Tears of Fire is described as funeral doom under the influence of Iranian music, as a mixture of oriental music, funeral doom and black metal, also categorized as Torturous Funeral Doom. The influences of oriental music gives independence to the style of the band in this genre and another dimension. The singing, which is mainly performed in Fârsi, varies between growling and crazy sounding screams.

The band’s first concert on July 8th, 1999 was disrupted by the Iranian Secret Police, with some members being arrested. In their earlier incarnation, the band was a black metal band, with their style changing as they reformed in 2016.

Tears of Fire was founded in 1998 in Tehran by Magus Lord Faustoos Crowley. Faustoos” completed a degree in philosophy with a master’s degree in Iran and a degree in theology with a doctorate degree. Meanwhile, while traveling through neighboring countries, he dealt with calligraphy, meditation and shamanism. The band name is in the context of his preoccupation with Iranian fire temples where Faustoos dealt with the silent edition.

The band’s first concert took place on July 7, 1999 as the opening of a religious event and was canceled by officials at the Ministry of Intelligence. The secret service turned off the electricity, destroyed instruments and arrested some of the band members, while others managed to escape with the help of the crowd. Among other things, singer Magus Lord Faustoos Crowle was imprisoned. Pictures and videos were confiscated and deleted from the Alzahra University archive. On July 15, the remaining musicians performed in celebration of the Tirgan Festival in Khuzestan Province.

The gig remained the band’s final appearance in Iran. Faustoos continued to act with critical installation and performance art and was imprisoned again. After experiencing torture, he agreed not to continue his socio-critical art. After his release from prison, Faustoos fled to Goa. Where he cooperated with international musicians and artists.

In Goa lernte er unter anderem die Sängerin Çaruk Revan kennenlernte. Nachdem die iranische Musikerin aufgrund unterschiedlicher Repressionen durch den iranischen Staat beschlossen hatte ihr Heimatland dauerhaft zu verlassen, empfahlen ihr Freunde sich an den damals in Goa lebenden „Faustoos“ zu wenden. Beide experimentierten mit folkloristischer Musik aus Akkordeon und traditionellen iranischen Saiteninstrumenten. Einige Zeit später begegneten sich beide 2011 in Greifswald erneut. Faustoos war zu diesem Zeitpunkt bereits im Begriff unterschiedliche Musikprojekte zu gründen.

Nach einer Umsiedelung nach Berlin reaktivierte Faustoos, gemeinsam mit Revan, dem schwedischen Schlagzeuger Martin Tri Cederlund und der französischen Violinistin Constance Marchand, Tears of Fire im Jahr 2016 Im gleichen Jahr begann der Filmemacher Janne Vuorela damit, Faustoos, dessen Geschichte und Band-Projekte wie Nashmeh und Tears Of Fire, sowie seine teils satanische Islamkritik in dem Dokumentarfilm Persian Black Metal Story zu porträtieren.

Während der Film entstand, bestritt Tears of Fire europaweit Auftritte und veröffentlichte unter anderem das Debüt Aeon कल्प kalpa.An dem Debüt beteiligten sich Barbara von Bogenstreich/Stella Babarella“ von Cultus Ferox als Gastmusikerin. Das Debüt wurde in Besprechungen als faszinierend und innovativ gelobt. Indes verließen Marchand und Revan Tears of Fire.

Die von Tears of Fire gespielte Musik wird als Funeral Doom unter dem Einfluss iranischer Musik,als Mischung aus orientalischer Musik, Funeral Doom und Black Metal, sowie als Torturous Funeral Doom kategorisiert.Die musikalischen Einflüsse orientalischer Musik verleihe dem Stil der Band indes Eigenständigkeit im Genre und „eine andere Dimension, Der überwiegend in Fârsi vorgetragene Gesang variiert zwischen Growling, und verrückt klingenden Schreien.

Mitt hovedfokus er musikk som er basert på progressiv tenking. Jeg er på ingen måte ensporet innen musikksmak, i likhet med intensjonen bak prog. Sjangerbegrepet er egentlig temmelig uinteressant annet enn til å gi en pekepinn om hva slags musikk det er snakk om i en anmeldelse. Jeg søker god musikk for å utfordre meg som lytter. God musikk til å trigge mine musikalske smaksløker, og til å sette i gang mine refleksjoner. Da er sjansen stor for at jeg utvikler meg og lærer, noe som bør være drivstoff for et hvert menneske. Fordi det å lære og utvikle seg er noe som tilfører livet en nødvendig porsjon "krydder". Slikt krydderet finner man blant annet i musikk. Ikke overraskende mener jeg at progressiv musikk har den fineste "smaken". På den annen side kan musikk med eller uten progressive elementer være godt nok til hverdags. Til fest derimot holder bare rendyrket prog! Må jo også få med at jeg rimelig kritisk, og jeg mener at det lages mye prog som er i beste fall uinteressant, og faktisk mye som er pinlig dårlig. Heldigvis oppveies dette av ekstremt dyktige aktører som for eksempel: Flower Kings, Mostly Autumn og White Willow, for å nevne noen tilfeldig valgte.
