Apogee: Means the point at which a body moving round the earth in an elliptical orbit!

This video contains some excerpts from the new Apogee album, The Blessing And The Curse , the latest solo album by Versus X singer and guitarist Arne Schäfer. The new Apogee Album has just been released on Progressive Promotion Records.

Arne Schäfer writes about the album:

«The Blessing And The Curse has become a rather non-compromising prog album, with 5 long tracks, all in the range between 12 – 16 minutes playing time and stylistically close to the classic Progressive Rock of the early seventies. All Songs are rather complex structurally and regarding the harmonic material used, while besides the Apogee-typical orchestrations also many atmospheric elements are contained. This is music for fans of long bows of tension and musical developments, which still offer real surprises».

«As always I tried to avoid musical mainstream, on the permanent search for unusual elements, harmonies, melodies and rhythmic accentuation. Also production wise I orientate myself towards the transparent sound and instrumentation of the classic prog albums, in which each Instrument can be clearly located in the mix. Like on the latest Apogee CDs Ebi Graef played the drums any I played all other instruments and sang».

The music is inspired by well know band as UK, ELP, Pink Floyd, Gentle Giant, genesis, Yes, and many more. The musical influences of Apogee`s music are covering a wide range of styles from thementioned  classic progressive rock. But also folk, heavy rock, jazz, baroque and renaissance music, minimal music, and new musics.

The song structure is rather complex, atmospheric and with a fair amount of harmonic elements. Schäfer also plays in Versus X and Apogee is a side project to the mentioned band. Apogee means the point at which a body moving round the earth in an elliptical orbit is at its’ greatest distance from the Earth.
