For their 40th anniversary and to salute Latvia on its Independence Day, Iļģi release the opus – the longest Latvian folk song, Mēs Deviņi Bāleliņi (We Nine Brothers). This song is unique because of its length and variations in melody. Its origins are steeped in the most ancient layers of courting folk songs. But the most unique about it is its length – 65 verses!
Work on the recording of Mēs Deviņi Bāleliņi has lasted over 2 years. Together with the members of Iļģi, our closest musical friends also have participated in the recording process Irīna Mihailovska, Uģis Prauliņš , Ivars Cinkuss, Vineta Romāne. The author of the album cover design is Toms Burāns. Iļģi: brings Latvian postfolk to the worldMusic! Since 1981.
«Iļģi thanks the Copyright and Communication Consulting Agency/ Latvian Authors Association (Akka / Laa), the Latvian Performers’ and Producers’ Association (LaIPA) and the State Culture Capital Foundation (VKKF) for financial support in the creative process».
