Donner: Has taken a lot of musical detours of late.
Donner - Hesitant Light
Donner is an electronica-project led by Jacob Holm-Lupo (White Willow, The Opium Cartel, Telepath) with influences from both classic EM like Tangerine Dream and John Carpenter to electro-funk/jazz-funk like George Duke or Herbie Hancock. The album Hesitant Light was released late in 2021, and here are the beautiful track Andromeda Waltz.
The original intention was for Donner to be an explorative space where fiddling with hardware synthesizers and hardware effects consisted of the actual work, while atmospheric instrumentals evoking 1980s John Carpenter and Tangerine Dream soundtracks was the hopeful outcome.
As work progressed, more people got involved, partially because of a desire to offset the mechanical rhythms of sequencers and drum machines with some organic and human elements. The motto became moods and grooves, and eventually Jacob got as much inspiration from George Duke and Herbie Hancock albums as from, say, the soundtrack to Escape from New York.

While the Norwegian-Israeli multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Jacob Holm-Lupo is best known as the leader of one of Scandinavia’s foremost progressive rock bands, White Willow, he has taken a lot of musical detours of late. First with the 80s-loving art-pop project The Opium Cartel, and then with a surprise collection of instrumental hard rock bangers with Telepath’s Mental Mutations.
