Fostermother: Houston magnetic and melodic doom metal purveyors.
Fostermother – The Ocean
Texas doom metal trio Fostermother shares brand new Seasons video; new album Ocean out in February 18th on Ripple Music. Houston magnetic and melodic doom metal purveyors Fostermother present a third excerpt taken from their upcoming new album The Ocean.
Hot on the heels of their 2020 self-titled debut, Fostermother return with a massive-sounding 7-tracker that cranks it up on all levels: darker, fuzzier, more rumbling and melodic than ever, as proven by their latest Hedonist and Sunday singles. With catchy, indie rock-tinged vocals, hints of keyboards, and an uncompromising will to drag the listener into the darkest corners of the human soul, their sophomore album The Ocean swallows anyone who joins this highly rewarding sonic experience.
Fostermother is a doom metal band formed in 2019 on the thriving scene of Houston, Texas. Originally a solo project Travis Weatherred, quickly joined by bassist Stephen Griffin, the band made an impression within the stoner and doom scene with their self-titled debut album, “hitting both soft and hard in all the right places, leaving oddly-comforting destruction in its wake” (Everything Is Noise). Now a three-head hydra with the addition of drummer Jason Motamedi, the band signed to Californian heavy rock powerhouse Ripple Music for the release of its follow-up ‘The Ocean” in February 2022.
About the new album, frontman Travis Weatherred says: “It is largely about dealing depression and isolation. It also speaks on individuals who would eagerly trade everything and everyone in the pursuit of their own self-interest all while casting judgment on others. These behaviors have a negative impact on friends, family, and society as a whole. Depression is viewed in two ways lyrically; a lack of desire to take care of yourself and the drive to move past it by seeking redemption and new motivations. The Ocean represents Isolation in society. I often find my healing/coping process is found best when I clear my thoughts in quiet room which is where the album ends.”
All music was written and performed by Travis Weatherred (vocals, guitar, synth, drums) and Stephen Griffin (bass, keys, and additional guitar). It was produced and mixed by Travis Weatherred. The artwork was designed by Ryan T. Hancock.
Fostermother was formed in 2019 by multi-instrumentalist, Travis Weatherred. After releasing a single, he found his musical partner in crime Stephen Griffin. The duo released their eponymous debut in late January 2020 and charted at #19 on the Doom Charts for January and #5 in February. In mid-2020, Olde Magick Records released the record on vinyl which quickly sold out in pre-sales all while racking up over 50,000 streams on Youtube. The debut album went on to hit #59 on the Doom Charts Top 100 Albums of 2020. Now the band has completed their sophomore effort and is gearing up to unleash the madness upon the doomed masses.
