The band Yawn is outside the box! So if you dig experimental extreme prog and bands like Author & Punisher, Meshuggah, Car Bomb, Vildhjarta, Gojira, and Tool, then this might be up your alley.
Norway’s Yawn unleashed their debut album Materialis on Feb 18th via their own label Mindsweeper Records. The track Lachrymator II : Lignite (single),
«Lignite is the first section of the piece called Lachrymator. This song is best known among our fans as the part of the show where Simen Wie goes into insane-mode, smashing a drumstick onto his bass-strings like it’s literally the end of the world. The first time he did this during rehearsal, it blew us all away. No distortion or overdrive-effect could ever come close to the raw aggressiveness of the sound coming out of his amplifier, while hitting the strings in this way».
«When we recorded the track, we even changed the drumstick for a screwdriver. The way that bass guitar grinds along with our two guitars in the opening is exactly the pure aggressive energy and rawness we seek in our heavy sound».
«We are extremely excited to be releasing our debut album Materialism on Mindsweeper Records February 18th 2022. Almost three years since we formed this band, we are now ready to show the world our exciting musical developments over the past three years in its best format. “Materialism” tells you the story of five guys giving everything they’ve got for the sake of breathing new life into the modern metal-scene, and tearing apart any limitations to what improvised music can sound like. This record is a volcano erupting under the frozen Nordic jazz-scene of today».
«This music is also has the missing piece of the puzzle we tried putting together growing up, listening to our favorite metal-bands, getting inspired by them, learning our instruments because of them, and so on. Combining the passion for creativity with an aversion to convention, Yawn is a band that puts their hearts into the desire for a new revolutionized way of playing music involving improvisation, heavy riffing and beautiful soundscapes. Materialism is being released on February 18th and represents all of this».
