Taking Balfour - The Watcher And The Witness

The Balfour Declaration is a declaration made by the British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour on 2 November 1917 in a letter to the English Zionist leader Lord Walter Rothschild. Balfour expressed the British government’s support for the idea of establishing a national home for the Jews in Palestine. The band Talking Balfour is probably inspired by this phenomena when they chose band name.

Taking Balfour’ is a five-piece progressive rock band hailing from Guelph, Ontario. The Watcher And The Witness is the dynamic new single from Ontario based progressive rock outfit, Taking Balfour. Intricate catchy riffs, thrilling instrumental layers and soaring vocals combine to deliver a high-octane release.

Lyrics:

I am the witness

The witness of this destruction

Scenes of horror

As our hope begins to rupture

Mind Frozen

Souls hopeless

What to trust

Lust or disgust

Can’t comprehend

Can’t pretend

This is not me

This isn’t my scene

They’re watching over ours shoulders

That warmth keeps getting colder

As the devil is creeping in closer

Am I the witness or the controller

I am the watcher

The watcher of this construction

Scenes of torture

As our allies begin to suffer

Is this me

Is this true

Lost in space

Can’t see through

Blinded by light

and darkness

The concept of structure

has departed

They’re watching over ours shoulders

That warmth keeps getting colder

As the devil is creeping in closer

Am I the witness or the controller

Contentment has fallen

The darkness begins

This isn’t our truth

Forgive our sins

We never knew which way to go

The angels on my shoulders come from below

Trying to

Push forward

Held back by

This disorder

Can I see

Is this real

Losing grip

Can’t verify what’s concealed

They’re watching, over ours shoulders

That warmth keeps getting colder

As the devil is creeping in closer

Am I the witness or the controller

Contentment has fallen

The darkness begins

This isn’t our truth

Forgive our sins

We never knew which way to go

The angels on my shoulders come from below

Am I the witness

The witness of this destruction

Mind in chains

Souls begin to rupture

«We are extremely excited to release our new single The Watcher And The Witness. We began writing this song during the pandemic nearly 2 years ago. The melodies, timing, and a lot of the song structure adapted over time until we had exactly what we wanted. This was the first song off our upcoming album that we recorded, as well as the first song we wrote together with the full and current lineup of Taking Balfour. The song was recorded and engineered by Zac Culp, mixed by Andrew Lauzon and mastered by Alex Snape. The video was shot by Michael Crusty of Crusty Media at AlphaCoin Network in Milton, Ontario».

«The Watcher And The Witness” is about the voices we carry within us. The light and darkness we all internally posses. The inner struggles we face and deal with everyday inside our own heads. This song is a reminder that we are all human, and the potential for good and evil lies within us all».

Following the release of their 2020 self-titled debut album, The Watcher And The Witness marks the next chapter for Taking Balfourwith a completed line-up and preparing for their new full-length releasing later this year.

Taking Balfour:

Spencer Gill – Lead Vocals

Noah Charles Anderson – Guitar, backup vocals

Slikt krydderet finner man blant annet i musikk.
