25 Yard Screamer: Directed by Magenta’s Rob Reed.
25 Yard Screamer - Nemesis
25 Yard Screamer with the track Incident taken from the album Nemesis which will be released through White Knight Records on October 7. 25 Yard Screamer hailing from Carmarthenshire, Bridgend and Cardiff in South Wales, progressive rock outfit 25 Yard Screame’ formed in 2002 after Donal Owen and Matt Clarke augmented Nick James at a showcase gig in Bracknell, for his then solo project. They released their first album ‘The Pictures Within’ in 2003, and their second ‘Approaching From An Oblique Angle’ followed in 2004 both hinting at the progressive influences that were soon to come to the fore.
The new video is directed by Magenta’s Rob Reed, also features cameos from Last Flight To Pluto’s Alice Freya and Darren Joseph.
«My original lyrical concept for Incident is about miscommunication, and how without communicating to someone face to face directly can lead to misunderstanding», explains guitarist and vocalist Nick James. «A text message without the benefit of vocal intonation can appear to mean the opposite of what was intended».
«Rob Reed who directed the video brought in darker and more fantastical elements which really give the song another layer. It highlights the addictive relationship we have with our phones and tablets. The video was a lot of fun to do, Alice and Daz from Last Flight To Pluto made appearances for us and everyone really got into the spirit of it all. There was much laughter in spite of the vibe we were creatin».
Nemesis is an observation of where we are and a first step on our new pathway», adds bassist Matt Clarke of the upcoming album. «Whilst referencing the band’s past Nemesis brings with it new elements. We wanted the music to breathe and have space, be diverse and powerful, to assist in the thematic delivery of the lyrics. Approaching topics such as modern miscommunication and redemption. The album also contains early beginnings of new stories».
Back to 2007, it was with Cassandra that they garnered much critical acclaim in the progressive rock and rock circles, drawing comparisons with Marillion, Rush, Porcupine Tree and Metallica. Blacklight taken from the album was chosen as one of the best 100 songs of 2007 in Classic Rock magazine.
The following album 2011’s Until All Are One showed a darker side to the band while still keeping their progressive leanings, further enhancing an ever growing reputation. During the recording of their concept album, 2013’s Something That Serves To Warn Or Remind, Tom Bennett was invited to join the band on a permanent basis after contributing keyboards and orchestrations to its sessions.
2016 saw the release of the bands 6th studio album. Keep Sending Signals which featured four brand new pieces of music and four reworking’s of very early material, most of which had not been heard by many people, again featuring the collaboration of Tom.
2019’s Natural Satellite was more experimental, concluding lyrical concepts that had begun on previous albums. The track ‘The Storyteller’ featured Rob Reed guesting on keyboards.
The band has appeared live at various festivals including Progeny, Cambridge Rock Festival, Weyfest, Danfest and Prog For Peart. Which brings us to 2022…and Nemesis.
