Nodo Gordiano: Try to avoid stereotypes!

Long songs were something that was quite common when prog was first created. The band Nodo Gordanio take this twist seriously and on their new album H.E.X.as they only have two 26.00 minutes tracks! Excerpts from The Heng suite that last for 26.00 minutes! H.E. X. is the sixth releases from this fine Italian band.

Nodo Gordiano was formed in 1994 by Andrea De Luca (ex Tarkus), The band name is Italian for Gordian Knot . At first, the band, during played mostly Genesis and King Crimson covers and Radio Rock. Over time the band migrated to a more progressive and experimental style.

Nodo Gordiano exhilarating brand of experimental rock have quickly earned them a reputation as one of the most peculiar acts to emerge from Rome independent scene. After two years of activity as a progressive rock cover band (specialized in the repertoires of King Crimson, Genesis and Banco), the project acquires a new awareness, deciding to concentrate its efforts in the search of a specific creative identity.

The group’s complex and dynamic sound along with their resonating live performances helped the band quickly rise to prominence in late 90s- Following the release of their self-titled album in 1999, they took to the road making appearences at multiple festivals playing along some of their heroes (John Wetton, Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso) and promoting their own creations.

As mentioned above, changing lineups album after album, with the constant presence and supervision of Andrea De Luca, and always trying to avoid stereotypes, their music sparked candid debate amongst critics; its diverse sound defies categorization while delivering a blend of aggressive or psychedelic attitude, emotive expression, progressive intellect and vintage flair.

2020 ends with the release of NG’s fifth album, Sonnar, and they are still looking forward for a new horizon, with the extent of enriching the heritage of such a fascinating voyage.

The trio of Nodo Gordiano is very talented and they deliver a very god album with their new opus H.E.X. with pure music pleasure. The band is inspired by King Crimson and they do their music with lots of will to explore different and fascinating soundscapes and experiment in a very solid way. Very mature, solid and adventures music. Heng slowly built up to a rather frenzy track until climax and with many sax outburst. Kou is a rather ominous track eerie synth and guitar delight and furious sax and with a quite fantastic mellotron at the end of the tack.
